Guildford & Godalming win AC Teams Competition

Eight clubs took part in this year’s SECF AC Teams Weekend at Sussex County on 8th/9th May, the first SECF competition since Covid-19 started. Normally this event has been run as a Swiss competition but this year, in order to provide a structure which would restrict unnecessary interaction between players, a pre-programmed order of play was developed in which over the two days each club would play all the other clubs. So it became more of a team event with the best final club score being the winner. Wins counted as one point with an additional point if both teams won in any round.

As it happened there was a very poor (and, as it turned out, somewhat inaccurate) weather forecast for the Saturday morning, and because of the very limited options for shelter it was decided on Friday afternoon to cancel the first game and postpone the start until lunchtime. Apologies to the two teams who did not get the message passed on to them.

With four rounds of play in the competition at the end Surbiton and Guildford & Godalming were equal on 8 wins, and had also both gained two additional points for round wins; but Guildford & Godalming took the prize by 6 net hoop points.

Welcome back to the Croquet Academy

Welcome back!

The Croquet Academy is now in full swing and ready to get everything going again after such a long break due to government lockdown.

All safety precautions are in place and in line with government and CA guidelines and with 11 lawns there’s plenty of space to comply with the latest Covid control measures.

Courses that were cancelled due to the lockdown have been deferred to later in the season so no need worry about missing that course you wanted to attend.

Along with the Academy Coaches we have several World Champion visiting coaches so don’t miss the chance to learn how to improve your game and skills with these coaches such as Stephen Mulliner, Jonathan Powe, Stephen Custance-Baker and Cliff Jones.

The Academy is also here for those more experienced players who aspire to become coaches in their own rights, or even to push themselves further to become a referee.

You’ll find all you need at The Croquet Academy.

For all general enquiries or course queries contact: courses@thecroquetacademy.com

Our Leagues and Tournaments

We’re pleased to announce that all our Leagues and Tournaments will operate as normal this year, although there may be some small adjustments to conform to the Croquet Association’s Covid-19 Guidelines.

In particular the Southern Challenge will still be a two day event in two Divisions, but since there will be a reduced number of teams in Division 1 there will be no Promotions from the 2020 Division 2. Details are available here.

The draws for the Leagues have already been announced, so we can’t take any more entrants for any of the Leagues. However, there may be spaces in our Tournaments, so if your club is interested in playing in one of these please send your entry in as soon as possible.

Invoices for these will be sent out shortly.

SECF 2021 League Matches announced

We’re restarting our leagues, after a year in abeyance, now that Covid-19 restrictions allow for matches to take place (assuming the dates for relaxation are met and therefore players are able to travel).

The league draws can be seen on our fixture list page.

Please note that Covid-19 regulations may mean some adjustments may need to be made to the logistics, e.g. provision of refreshments will be possible at some times during the summer and not at others.
