Sussex County win our AC Team Doubles

No doubt many players were looking at the weather forecast after all our recent rain, but the day turned out mainly bright and dry with just a little rain after lunch and some warming sun for much of the day’s play.

Seven teams competed for the trophy this year. There were eight which would have made a more definitive contest, with two blocks and crossover finals, but one team dropped out so the format was revised to more of a jamboree style to ensure all pairs have games all day. Two games of 14pts were played before and after lunch.

Every team won at least one game but the day’s play was dominated by two clubs, Caterham and the Sussex County B team. In the end they were separated only by net points, and a 14-0 win by Sussex County B over the club’s A team pretty much accounted for their final victory. Third place was taken by Reigate Priory.

It was lovely to see so many familiar faces from previous years, and several new ones – good to see AC has some new adherents. 8 teams would have represented a good increase on recent entries so it may be the single day format will continue to attract teams from around the Federation. See you all next year I hope.
